      OLA fighters release political prisoner

      OLA fighters broke into PP’s prison facility in Begi & released political prisoners in there today. Begi is a bustling business town known for its brand coffee produced by commercial farms at its environs in western Oromia bordering neighbouring Benishangul-Gumuz regional state.

        OLA successive operations over the past months

        Through its successive operations over the past months, the OLA has begun to successfully reverse the Prosperity Party led genocidal campaign on the Oromo people and free a large swath of territory in Oromia from suppression. Other wars taking place in Ethiopia have their roots in the dictatorial mishandlings and inta-power struggle within the now defunct EPRDF camp. As different factions wage war to occupy and/or cling onto power through the barrel of the gun, our people have been caught in the crossfire and are paying the ultimate price.

        Specifically, our people in Wollo have been living through this brutal civil war for three reasons. First, there are some who have fallen prey to Prosperity Party (PP) propaganda campaign that paints Tigrayans fighters as a foe. Second, extreme Amhara nationalists of the Gondar and Gojjam shade have been pushing the war in the Amhara region from Gondar to Wollo, and finally, whatever the source of the war, our people were forced to engage as they do not have a government that can protect their safety and security in the midst of a civil war being fought in their neighbourhoods.

        OLF-OLA would like to reiterate again that the genocidal Prosperity Party army and its allies including the Amhara Special Forces, Militia and Fano should not get any form of support from our people in Wollo. Assisting these forces will be forgetting the recent ethnic cleansing in Shewa Robit, and the ongoing PP campaigns in Wollega, Guji, Borena, Matakat, Gindeberet, Wollo and many other places across the country.

        Our people in Wollo have the natural right to defend themselves against any incursion that comes on their turf. To mitigate the effects of this civil war, our people should organize, arm and defend themselves. Popular self-defence is part and parcel of the Oromo struggle for freedom and national self-determination. Therefore:

        We urge some members of our community who have fallen prey to PP propaganda to dissociate themselves from a ‘government’ whose days in power are numbered;
        We would like to remind our people, friends of our struggle and the international community that the PP-led government of the Ethiopia bears the ultimate responsibility for the crimes committed in this conflict against our people in Wollo;
        We call upon our people in Wollo to continue to join your own OLF-OLA and the Wollo branch of OLA to emancipate yourself from living as a second class citizen inside the Amhara region;
        We call upon soldiers and decent commanders within the PP army to stop fighting for a war with no cause other than keeping one man in power. At the very least, we ask you spare your own lives by leaving the army of a ‘government’ on the brink of collapse;
        We call up on the international community to support our struggle for freedom and self-determination, and for the stability of the country and the region;
        Dictators divide and rule oppressed peoples. We call upon all oppressed communities to be cognizant of Abiy’s divide and rule tactics, and to stand in unison with your brothers in arms;
        We would like to remind everyone that the solution to the political malaise rocking Ethiopia lies in true recognition of the peoples’ demand for self-determination, and not through keeping an individual or a group in power;
        The only mechanism to extricate the people of the country from civil war is by creating a platform of democratic self-governance in which respect for the rights of an individual, and peoples can be simultaneously and sustainably ensured;
        In the absence of any semblance of a government that can protect the safety and security of the people—a prevailing condition almost everywhere in of today’s Ethiopia—the people will have the natural right to organize and defend themselves.

          Jaal Marroo, commander of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), warned Abiy Ahmed that pro-government fighters were defecting and the rebels were very close to victory. “What I am sure (of) is that it is going to end very soon,” Jaal, whose real name is Kumsa Diriba.

              Nothing will stop OLA from achieving their goals which are to liberate Oromia and the Oromo People. The Oromo People have a choice to stand with OLA or to stand with the traitors that sold out Oromia.

                        the callous massacre of Karrayyu Gada elders

                        The Oromo Liberation Front- Oromo Liberation Army (OLF-OLA) welcomes the effort made by the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in investigating, in some detail, and putting together a report regarding the callous massacre of Karrayyu Gada elders in December 2021 in East Shewa Zone of Oromia. At that time, we openly stated, depending on numerous reliable internal and external sources, that the massacre was directly attributable to regime forces. The regime did not waste time putting the blame squarely on our army.

                        The commission is also yet to organize any meaningful investigative work in other high-level killings and mass murders. Many such incidents remain in the shadow without justice or any attempt to independently investigate. To name just a few: the murder of engineer Simegnew (former chief of the GERD project), the assassination of the iconic Oromo musician and activist Hachalu Hundessa, the killing of the country’s former Chief of Staff of the national army and his colleagues, and numerous civilian mass murders by soldiers, drones or Helicopter gunships.

                        Therefore the investigations conducted by the commission in some instances and the absence thereof in others, point to a pattern of selective investigation in favour of the regime. The recent report of the Karrayyu Massacre of our Gada elders is no different. We do not believe that the EHRC is moved impartially and independently to uncover the truth regarding the killing of the Oromo cultural leaders.

                        We believe the report aims to:

                        1) Con the international community into inferring that the regime is capable of organizing an independent commission under its control at the time when its national dialogue commission is under increasing public scrutiny.

                        2) Attempt to delude some among the Oromo that the regime, somehow, makes an effort to ensure the safety and security of the Oromo people and its leadership, including the dear departed Gada leaders.

                        3) Use the report to score political points and settle an internal power struggle in the OPDO branch of the ruling PP.

                        Victory to the Oromo and all oppressed people!

                              the multi- dimensional war enacted on Oromo people

                              The Oromo Liberation Front statement on the multi- dimensional war enacted on Oromo people and Oromia citizens by the government of prosperity party.

                              OLF Statement- April 29, 2022
                              Since the government of Prosperity Party (PP) led by Dr Abiy Ahmed came to power, the Oromo people and Oromia citizens are under unbearable constant attack in many ways. Currently, the PP regime is using different means to make the Oromo people submit to the ruling group and their revival of old colonial project.

                              The current campaign against the Oromo people is multi- dimensional and widespread than ever aiming to damage the lives and livelihoods of every individual Oromo as well as weaken Oromo institutions and destruct the nation as a whole.

                              The PP regime is implementing systematic strategy designed at the beginning of Dr Abiy Ahmed’s leadership tenure aimed to destroy Oromo identity, dismantle Oromo institutions, and weaken the Oromo nation. The whole range of multi- dimensional campaigns of the PP tyranny is to force the Oromo people and other nations and nationalities to submit to the chauvinist ruling class empire system guided by the principle of Menelik II revival project. T

                              he campaign involves creating systematic poverty by confiscating their lands based on their ethnicity and political view, favouring the expansionist group to take Oromo land, ethnically motivated killing and displacement, bribe and corruption by the PP armed forces, and security personnel.
                              In this respect the Oromo people are exposed to ethnically motivated mass massacre, poverty and facing day to day harassments, displacements and various sorts of conflicts. By instigating conflicts among peoples, the PP regime is creating instability with neighbouring nations and nationalities that damages the peaceful co-existence of peoples.

                              The PP regime is not only intentionally making Oromia a war zone but also immensely hindering individual’s basic rights including belief, identity, educations and social bonds. The recent attack of Muslim from oppressed peoples in Northern Ethiopia by the government sponsored terrorist groups because of their religion is one concrete evidence of religious impartiality.

                              These clearly undermine religions rights of certain groups of people who do not belong to the ruling system. Also, several evidence can be mentioned regarding the impartiality of education system, development program and peace and security issues. Harassing Oromo and trying to weaken the political and social institutions in Oromo and other oppressed peoples is another evidence of undermining democracy and enforcing oppressed people to submit to the dictatorial empire system.

                              Currently, the Oromo people and Oromia citizens cannot carry out their day to day works to earn their daily livings due to harassment and lack of peace and stability in the region. The current nonstop military campaign against the Oromo people is widespread and more brutal than ever. On April 21, 2022, we have issued a statement on Invasion of Wallo Oromo Civilians by the Government of PP and the Amhara Regional State that caused huge destruction to the Wallo Oromos.

                              Again, it is with sadness that we inform the public other shocking atrocities perpetrated by the PP regime on Oromo Civilians in various parts of Oromia including Central Oromia, West Arsi, East Wallagga and Gujii Zones. The details are as follows:
                              1. On 28 April 2022, in Central Oromia, Ada’aa Bargaa District the regime’s armed forces have killed 15 Oromo civilians including 70-year-old man. The armed forces are looting properties including cash, jewellery, furniture and burning individual houses. As we speak the families, children and elderly are escaping to the jungle to save their lives. Lists of victims will be available for those interested.
                              2. On 28 April 2022, the PP security forces have mass arrested over 31 Oromo civilians across various districts in West Arsi including Digaluu, Xijjo, Xiyyo, Hexxosa, Ittayya, Munessa, Leemmuu Hilbillo, Boqqojji, Roobee, and Ziway Dugda. Curreently these civilian victims are detained at various detention camps and being tortured by the regime’s armed forces. Not only torturing but also the regime’s armed forces are commanding the detainees to pay 20, 000-30,000 ETB per head to be realized while the release itself is not guaranteed. They have also been threatened to be banned from tilling their farms and if necessary, they would take away their land unless they bring and handover the members of the OLA in the region to the regimes armed forces.
                              3. On April 26, 2022, in Horro Guduru Zone (Finca’aa) three civilians have been killed and three disappeared and in the same zone (Kiramu) one student of the Qabridahar University has been killed by the Government forces. Previously on 16 April 2022, in Horro Guduru Zone (Kiramuu), 36 Oromo civilians have been killed by the Government armed forces.
                              4. This week in Northeast Finfinnee and Salaale Zone (Abootee, Harro, Kuyyuu, Meettaa, and Gindabarat), over 30 civilians have been killed including by Air attack.
                              5. From 23-27 April 2022, in West Shawaa (Ambo and surrounding areas) 19 civilians have been killed.
                              6. On 28 April 2022 in Gujii Zone (Bule Hora District) 11 civilians have been killed en mass.
                              7. Although we mentioned these few atrocities similar harassment and killings of Oromo civilians are widespread across Oromia.

                              The OLF strongly denounces this multi-dimensional war on Oromo civilians and citizens of Oromia, and we demand the immediate release of the detained civilians in West Arsi and central Oromia and return of their confiscated properties and compensate for the houses burned and properties destroyed.

                              We would like to remind the PP regime that it is impossible to make the Oromo people submit to the empire ruling system by war and conflict. Rather than continue committing crime over crime against Oromo people and Oromia citizens we would urge the ruling group to seek for peaceful solution to the perennial political crises in Ethiopia. The ruling group must know that intensifying conflicts and bloodshed over innocent civilians will not bring peace and stability but rather intensify division and disintegration. Also, the PP regime obsession of one- party -one religion- one country ruling system would not be successful by nonstop military campaign and deploying terrorist groups to Oromia and undermining the rights of oppressed nations and nationalities in Ethiopia.

                              The ruling regime is accountable for the current killings and destruction in Oromia and the future consequences it will have on Ethiopia. The OLF would again like to emphasize that rather than expanding instability and conflicts in Oromia, which would have far reaching consequences on peace, security, and co-existence of the Ethiopian peoples, we urge the withdrawal of the armed forces from Oromia, put down the guns and genuinely work to solve the crises in a peaceful political negotiation process.
                              Finally, we would like to reiterate to the Oromo people that this time is the matter of life and death for you; and you must defend yourself and your identity in unison. You should work to collaborate with other nations and peoples to fight for your freedom and democracy. Also, we call up on the wider Oromo community and Oromia citizens inside and outside the country stand with your brothers and sisters in Oromia.

                              The Oromo people and Oromia citizens inside the country to stand in solidarity with Oromos in West Arsi, Ada’aa Barga, Gindabarat, Horro Guduru in whatever means you can including material support and getting their voices heard to the international community. We also call the oppressed nations and nationalities collaborate with the Oromo people and citizens of Oromia.
                              We also, appeal to the international community and international human rights organizations to urge the PP regime to stop committing crime over crime on citizens and gross human rights violations to stay in power. We also ask the international community including Governments, the UN, AU, EU, and other concerned humanitarian and human rights organizations to put pressure on the Ethiopian regime to refrain from committing crime against humanity and urge them to seek peaceful solution to Ethiopian political crises.

                              Victory to the Masses!

                                  The continuous massacre of Oromo civilians

                                  The Prosperity Party system is taking revenge for the loss it has suffered by fighting with the Oromo Liberation Army by continuously massacring Oromo civilians.
                                  OLF’s press release – May 7, 2022
                                  If Dr. Abiy Ahmed comes to power and tries to break the Oromo people to a point that they will never rise again, the Oromo people and Oromia people will be in a non-stop war. Because of this reason a lot of civilian lives have been lost and properties have been destroyed. The war of invasion that is being carried out on the Oromo people is very large and the beginning is to expand and to seize the land of Oromo. The Defense Army of the Prosperity Party, the Eritrean Army and the Amhara Militia and the Fano Terrorist Group are unthinkable on the innocent Oromo people. They are committing war and genocide. Just to mention a few, we have recently released a press release regarding the massacre and imprisonment of civilians in Wollo, Gindeberet, Horo Guduru, Guji, Western Arsi and Ambo. Most of these civil war happened after the ruling forces lost the battle with the Oromo Liberation Army.
                                  It is heart breaking to see the new massacres happening again in North Shoa and East Shoa zones, Wara Jarso Woreda. According to the information we got from the surrounding communities in Jarso district, Sunday May 1 and 02 2022 E.C. In the evening 18 people, three from Jimma Mela Kebele and 15 from Aware Golje Kebele have been killed by the defense force and local administration militia after they were arrested. The bodies of the deceased have not been collected and are still in the ditch. Families who tried to collect the bodies of their relatives have been arrested. The leader of the killing was Kasa Reta, the son of the police officer who was killed in a fight with the Oromo Liberation Army in Bustilo Dera. Similarly yesterday, May 6, 2022 in East Shoa zone Bosat Bole village, many peaceful people have been killed by drone attack. On this day in Ambo Gomosa Sato Kebele an Oromo citizen has been shot dead by the armed soldiers of the regime. In Metekel zone, similar massacres are happening repeatedly.
                                  The killing that is being done on Oromo peaceful citizens is based on ethnicity and is intended to displace the peaceful people. For example, when the regime of Wara Jarso was talking about the killers of the mass killing, they were saying “A person who speaks Afan Oromo has a connection with the Oromo Liberation Army and should be killed.”
                                  Prosperity party rule is trying to disrupt the lives of Oromo people and Oromia citizens by taking a long and long war. By committing mass killings, by burning peaceful citizens houses, pets and food, they are making Oromo people and children displaced from their land.
                                  OLF condemns this atrocity on Oromo civilians. And the ruling party of Prosperity party still demands to stop the killing of citizens and remove the invading force from Oromia. We would like to remind the Prosperity Party government that killing innocent people is not a solution to Ethiopia’s problem because of your war with freedom fighters. Rather, we urge you to follow a peaceful way to solve the political crisis in the country. The ruling of the prosperity party led by Dr. Abiy Ahmed is responsible for the destruction of life and property on Oromo civilians.
                                  We would like to warn that the armed forces of the Amhara regional government, the army of Eritrean government and the participants of other regions are equally responsible for the repeated killings and destruction that happened in Oromia.
                                  We ask the Oromo community found in different Oromia regions and Oromo born abroad to support our brothers and sisters who are victims of colonialism.
                                  At the end, we would like to think that the Oromo people and Oromia citizens who are in the country and outside the country should stand together and support each other to protect their right to survive and overcome this difficult time.
                                  We still demand the international community and human rights activist organizations that chose silence on Oromia issues to put pressure on the Ethiopian ruling group and to stop the war on human rights and the destruction of the country.

                                  Victory for the masses at large!
