The Green Innovation Centre Regional Conference 2021 has been held. GIZ provides support mainly in three priority areas; sustainable economic development and vocational education, food security and agriculture, as well as conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

Green Innovation Centre (GIC) is one of the projects of GIZ that has been conducting many activities to support Ethiopian Agriculture in many aspects. Consequently, Green Innovation centres’ Regional Conference 2021 has been conducted both virtually and physically here in Addis (Hilton Hotel) with the theme: “Providing Resilience and Suitability in the Face of COVID-19.”
The annual Green Innovation centre Regional Conference promotes exchange between different innovation centres and provides a forum for interdisciplinary and cross organizational dialogues. This year, the agenda focuses on resilience and sustainability measures that are applied and planned in the different countries to support smallholder farmers to be better prepared for potential external shocks. Moreover, the measures assist in adequately adapting to economic, ecological, and health threats.

During the Green Innovation Centre Regional Conference opening, Germame Garuma, on behalf of Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) states that under the special initiative One World No Hunger, the Green Innovation Centre is supporting the Ethiopian 10-year development plan.

Green Innovation CentreLaura Schmidt, head of development cooperation at Germany embassy Addis Ababa, on her part said “with the green Innovation centres, smallholder farmers have been strengthening not only interims of productivity and farm income but also in their ability to adapt climate challenge.”

During closing conference, Yenenesh Eggu, Agricultural Extension Director pointed out that participants have learned from the regional conference; innovations must be economically sustainable, socially acceptable, environmental friendly, and it should be align to the existing policy and regular frameworks.
