The Ethiopian Army lost at least four tanks to the Tigray Defence Forces (TDF) around Dessie. Two T-62s and one T-55 were captured intact while one T-62 was destroyed. True armour losses are likely significantly higher.

Ethiopia is using children as soldiers in its dirty wars. He is 15 years old and a native of Arsi oromo, (Temesgen), he was sent to the battlefield by Abiy Ahmed and was captured by the TDF in Amhara region of Ethiopia.

    OLF Press Release – October 17, 2021
It saddens us to report that our people of the Borana region, the powerhouse of Oromo culture and tradition, are under man-made and nature duress. For decades now, the region has housed as one of the strongest and persistent resistance struggles against the Ethiopian government for Oromo self-determination. This is not lost on successive Ethiopian regimes, who left the region without a shred of civilization, without sufficient roads, schools, hospitals, etc. In the backdrop of this regime induced hardship, that the recent drought befell on the Borana region.
The current drought is exacerbated by inaction and carelessness of the Ethiopian Prosperity Party and the Oromia Regional Government. While the Ethiopian Prosperity Party government has focused its full attention to the wars of its own creation: in the North with Tigrean Defense Forces and in Oromia with Oromo Liberation Army, tens of thousands are dying in the South, killed not only by security forces, but also because of drought which the government seems to have intentionally ignored.
Sadly, it has come to our attention that unless urgent action is taken to supply drinking water and food to the people and livestock in the Borana region, an immense proportion of calamity is in the coming. We have long observed excruciating pain in the Oromia region. The ongoing drought in the Borana region, a region that has taken exceptionally painful natural and political hits, is taking place while the world is in full compliance.
The OLF is aware of the effort of UN agency and would like to thank for their effort. However, the magnitude of this heart-breaking disaster could have been reduced if it has discharged its duty on time. We call on all NGOs, governments, friends of the Oromo people, able individuals, and neighbors to save the Borana people and environment before it is too late.
We call on citizens of Oromia all over the globe to give due attention and do all things possible to raise awareness on the situation of our people in Borana, mobilize all possible assistance to reach them stand shoulder to shoulder with them in this time of extreme hardship.

The Government of Dr Abiy Ahmed and his Prosperity Party are Responsible for continued Cold Blood Murders of Oromo Civilians in East Wallaga – Oromia.
    OLF Press Release – October 15, 2021
The OLF was strongly denouncing the repeated massacres of Oromo civilians by the central government budgeted Amhara Special Forces (aka Amhara Militias). Although using ethnic conflict as a political tool is a common policy of Ethiopian ruling system, the extent and frequency of the current conflicts are extremely high. It is to be remembered that the Amhara Militias had been deployed to Oromia and Benishangul_Gumuz Regions several times on their own as well as in coordination with Federal Forces and the Eritrean armed forces. To mention some of the recent ones: in the months of March and April 2021, large number Amhara Militias armed with heavy weapons opened fire on Oromo residents in East Wallagga in places known as Wast, Siredoro, Hagamsa, and Haroo/ Lalisee towns and they killed many Oromo civilians. At the same time, many Battalions of Eritreans were deployed to Metekel Zone, Benishangul Gumuz and East/West Oromia regions including Qellam Wallaga and West Wallaga Zones, Shashamane, Guji and Borana Zones and committed many killings.
Particularly the civilian killings increased sharply since Dr Abiy Ahmed vowed in public that he would deploy Amhara Militias to restore law and order in other regions of Ethiopia and his deputy PM, Demeke Mekonnen, highlighted providing firearms and training to the Amhara people to “defend themselves,” implicitly to realize their territorial expansion project to other regions. To the contrary, it is observable truth that the Oromo people had no right to have firearms and had been confiscated all sort of implements including machetes they use for farming and even banned from holding sticks that is a traditional way of life for Oromo men. This clearly indicated that this is intended not only undermining other regional polices but giving vital role to the Amhara militias that is being used to destabilize other peoples.
Although Amhara Militias massacring civilians repeatedly happened in Oromia, the OLF is immensely shocked by this round of brutal massacres of Oromo Civilians in East Wallagga in the last three days. According to the information we received, in the last two days (October 10 and 12, 2021), 40 Oromo civilians were murdered in cold blood in East Wallagga alone. On 10 October 2021, 25 Oromo civilians were brutally murdered by heavily armed Amhara Militias in Haro District of East Wallagga. The civilians were killed in extreme cruelty including massacre of nine people in one place. Out of the twenty-five victims twenty had their throats slit opened, and five were gun shot. Fourteen of the bodies have now been eaten by stray dogs as the gunmen refused to allow burial. We have received the details of eighteen people out of twenty-five killed in Haro District. According to the information the age range of the victims were 12 to 70 years old. Eight are Female and ten are male. Similarly, on 12 October 2021, 15 Oromo civilians were massacred by Amhara Militias in districts of Kiramu and Guto Gidda in a town called Luugoo, East Wallagga. These include the former Luugoo town administrator aged 55 years old; 60 years old man a father of five children; 70 years old woman and 17 years old young person.
In addition, in separate incident, the recently discovered bodies in Borana Zone are shocking news. According to the report issued by Prisoners’ Rights Campaigners on 13 October 2021, two Oromo young civilians known as Boruu Guyyoo and Derejjee Biraanu had been taken out of the Hiddi Lolaa Prison, in Miyo district of Borana and killed in cold blood by the PP soldiers and buried in unknown place. After long time searches by the victims’ families, the bodies of the two Oromo civilians were recovered on 13 October 2021.
OLF would like to express its condolences to their families that might have been affected by this brutal Massacre of Amhara Militias and PP soldiers. In addition, we want to make clear that the identities of the victims that were not known so far would be verified at the right time. The OLF strongly condemn these expanding brutal acts of terror by the PP government soldiers and its appendage Amhara Militias that is creating havoc throughout the country.
We would like to express our deep concern that Dr. Abiy Government’s actions of intensifying ethnic conflicts for political objective will lead to catastrophic ethnic genocide and put the country and the region in irreversible danger.
    Therefore:
    1. We call for independent investigation into these Massacres of East Wallaga regions so that it will be clear to the Ethiopian peoples as well as to the international community.
    2. We inform the Ethiopian peoples and the international community that Dr. Abiy’s government and his prosperity party should be accountable for all the lives lost due to inflaming ethnic conflicts and should refrain from future atrocities that might happen due to actions of his ill motivated partial Government of Prosperity Party.
    3. We would like to strongly remind the Oromia citizens that you do not have a government to protect you. OLF was informing you this for long time. Lack of Oromia regional governance exposed it to invasion by other regional forces, namely, Amhara regional government militia. The Amhara regional state as a core of ruling property party is supported by Central Government of Dr. Abiy that repeatedly deployed Militias to break the Oromo people’ lives. Thus, we would like to remind the Oromo people again that you must strengthen the Oromia Regional State National Transitional Government and protect yourself from regional invasion and restore peace and security in your region.
    4. We continue to urge the international community to take practical actions using all tools available to pressure the Government of Dr. Abiy to respect human rights, and refrain from inciting genocide between nations and nationalities that would have catastrophic outcome for Ethiopian peoples and detrimental impact on peace and security in the region.
    5. We also ask the international community to urge Dr. Abiy to abide by the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic constitution, and respect national, regional, and international laws on human rights and people’s rights.
In conclusion, the OLF requests the Amhara Regional Government to immediately withdraw Amhara Militias from Oromia regions as continuation such irresponsible actions will have more grave consequences for the people it claims to represent.

Most people have been misled into believing that, the spark of the war in Tigray was started by TPLF when they attacked the Northern Command. Which is very wrong. The war in Tigray wasn’t accidental, but well planned and executed.

However, Abiy Ahmed and Isaias Aferwerki of Eritrea, had earlier visited the Ethiopian air force a few weeks before the invasion. The two dictators visited the Airforce base as part of war preparation on Tigray.

The duo would later visit Sawa military camp in Eritrea.

The great army believes in respecting POW(Prisoners Of War) and laws that govern  combatants.

The discipline of Tigray Defence Forces is not accidental, but part of the TDF ideology.

In a recent State TV broadcast, Abiy Ahmed urges supporters abroad to raise funds + “hire lobbyist” to silence the ‘noise’ re: the #TigrayGenocide, which includes the siege & blockade of the #Tigray region that is fuelling a man- made famine threatening over 6 Million Tigrayans.

The deployment of Emirati unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) on behalf of the Ethiopian government has been speculated on ever since the beginning of hostilities with the rebellious Tigray Region in November 2020. The oft-repeated claims that several Chinese-made Wing Loong UCAVs operate out of Assab air base in Eritrea to undertake combat missions over Tigray have never been supported by evidence that points towards such a deployment either in 2020 or now. However, almost one year into the conflict evidence that shows UAE-combat drones have indeed been delivered to Ethiopia to help it in its fight against the Tigray Defence Forces (TDF) has now finally emerged. [1]

By Stijn Mitzer and Joost Oliemans

But rather than being the Wing Loongs that were previously claimed to have been active in the skies over Tigray, the delivered UCAVs instead consist of a large VTOL type that can be armed with two 120mm mortar rounds. These unguided mortar rounds offer significantly less accuracy than the guided weaponry deployed by the Wing Loongs or other Chinese UCAVs however, and are of limited use against an enemy that relies on mobility and surprise attacks rather than static defence lines. Their effectiveness decreases even further in urban areas, and it would necessitate great restraint on behalf of their operators not to deploy them in areas that still have civilians in them to avoid collateral damage.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has proven a staunch supporter of the Ethiopian government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. What exactly this support has so far entailed is still the subject of debate. What is known is that large Il-76 transport aircraft frequently fly between the UAE and Harar Meda, Ethiopia’s largest air base. [1] Although the contents of their cargo can currently only be guessed at, they are almost certain to contain military-grade items specifically meant for use in the Tigray Region.

Previous UAE arms shipments to Ethiopia are known to have included large volumes of firearms produced by the Caracal company, which produces a number of modern small arms designs. [2] Much like the Israeli TAR-21 assault rifle also in service with Ethiopia, the weaponry supplied by the UAE was solely distributed to the Republican Guard. In recent times Ethiopia’s Republican Guard saw its tasks expanding to the point where they now actively participate in the Tigray War as one the country’s better-trained forces.

Images of the UAE-delivered combat drones were reportedly taken some four months ago in the Maychew area of Ethiopia’s Tigray Region. [3] After a number of offensives by Tigray forces (which have meanwhile morphed into the Tigray Defence Forces) that sought to dislodge all remaining Ethiopian government forces from the region, Maychew is now firmly under Tigray control. The drone systems themselves likely retreated along with their Ethiopian operators, their range currently insufficient to harass Tigray forces around Maychew yet again.

Although the exact drone type that forms the basis for the UCAV design is as of yet unknown, they are identical in design to two UCAVs that were shot down by Houthi forces in Yemen. Perhaps unsurprisingly, these UCAVs were operated by UAE-backed forces at the time of their downing. Images taken of the drones after their descent to earth reveal a large commercial off-the-shelf VTOL design (presumably of Chinese origin) that has been modified to carry two mortar rounds.

To enable the carriage of the heavy 120mm ordnance, two large tubes were fitted to either side of the drone in which the mortar rounds are contained during flight. After finding a suitable target, the mortar rounds are released by remote control and plummet to their target essentially like dumb bombs. This is a highly inaccurate means of targeting even when dropped from low altitude, and limits the drones’ effectiveness to attacking stationary targets or large groups of infantry. In order to achieve the accuracy needed to strike even such simple targets, the rounds would have to be dropped from low altitude. This in turn makes the UCAV vulnerable to ground fire, although no system is reported to have been downed in Ethiopia yet.

From the regular flights of cargo aircraft that repeatedly enter Ethiopian airspace it is clear that its allies are not abandoning it in the face of mounting U.S. pressure to solve the conflict through political means (which, as an aside, is an option both fighting parties so far appear to be willing to consider). Interestingly, this even includes nations that are at odds with each other, with both the UAE and Iran delivering UCAVs and other armament to the Ethiopian regime. There is no doubt this won’t be the last delivery of arms, with the deployment of Chinese and Turkish drones also having been reported about, though never conclusively, on a number of occasions.

This is Mesafint Teka, a commander of the armed militia group Kefagn Amhara. A video emerged of him delivering a speech at a packed auditorium said to be in Gondar where he calls on ethnic Amhara youths to join the ranks of his forces and attack Tigrayans in the Amhara region.

“If they don’t show opposition to the TPLF like we have…Tigray(ans) should leave our area, our land our borders, get out of our country! We can meet them head on (in battle)!” Mesafint clutching a rifle and flanked by heavily armed members of his militia tells a crowd.

“we will grasp Tigray in our fist,” which he says while clenching his hand into a fist.

The Amhara regional government ought to reel in such people. In trying times like these, where the slightest gestures ignite communal violence and displace people from their homes in the thousands, there is no place in Ethiopia for Mesafint Teka.

Spurred on by the crowd and the event MC, Mesafint even says that if permitted, his forces will invade Tigray and promises “you know the factories that they’ve built over there, we will bring them back here!” to loud applause.

What’s happening in Tigray is also economic warfare in addition to genocide and weaponized starvation. How long can you survive without food, water, medicine, fuel, electricity, banks, telephone services, etc? Millions in Tigray are facing starvation in addition to a blockade.

There has been a lot of confusion in regards to former OLA southern zone commander, Mr Gollicha Dhenge’s return to civilian life. Contrary to government news reports, Mr Gollicha has not been an OLA commander for over a year as he had withdrawn from the field to seek medical treatment. To maintain military operations, Mr Gollicha’s former deputy, jaal Gammachiis Aboye, was promoted to take his place. Following his recovery, Mr Gollicha refused several requests to return to the field and resume his command. Moreover, he also refused to participate in the OLF-OLA General Assembly held in July citing disagreements with the rest of the commanders. We understand his decision to return to civilian life given his health condition, moreover; as a respected veteran of the Oromo struggle who led OLA forces in the southern zone for over a decade, we wish him the best in his future endeavours.
