Ethiopian cities’ green legacy program has officially started in Legetafo, Legedadi city.
Green footprint tree planting program in Legetafo, Legedadi city with federal and regional leaders and city mayors were present today when it officially begun.
The program was officially launched by the Minister of Urban and Infrastructure, Mrs. Chaltu Sani. In her opening speech, the minister pointed out that there are plans to plant 196.8 million trees in all cities of our country in Legetafo, Legedadi.
The Minister who pointed out that the successful works and encouraging results have been recorded in the tree planting program. So far we have been able to send one billion seedlings to East African countries beyond Ethiopia, our country’s experience is a role model for the world countries in the 11th World Cities Forum held in Katoves, Poland.
Mrs. Chaltu Sani said in her concluding speech that every city should support the government’s efforts to ensure food security by covering all the empty spaces found in the city with fruits and vegetables.City and Infrastructure Minister Mrs. Helen Debebe said that the tree planting program should be led by plan and with the green footprint work should be carried out that concerns urban agriculture.
The minister said that we need to institutionalise the green footprint and be sustainable, and he leadership should be the first to play its role.
Mayor of Legetafo and Legedadi City Administration Mr. Berisa Temesgen, who was present on the stage and conveyed a welcome message, said that a lot of works are being done in the city to achieve the green legacy plan.
The city and infrastructure minister Mrs. Chaltu Sani and other federal and regional leaders and mayors planted trees.
